A. GENERAL
1. Standards The CONCEPT helmet meets the ECE R 22-04 standard. It
conforms to the guidelines of the DMSB (the German association
for motor sport).
2. Choice of helmet Standard sizes
The CONCEPT is available in 8 sizes. The circumference of your
head is the decisive factor in choosing the right size. The best way to measure the greatest circumference is to position the
measuring tape around your head approximately a finger's width above your eyebrows. This will give you the size in centimetres. A
helmet that fits correctly should not press on your head although a
new helmet will be a firm fit. The comfort padding will quickly adjust to your head when you have worn it a few times. A helmet
of the right size will not move when you shake your head, even with the chin strap undone.

B. THE HELMET
1. Outer shell Structure:
The outer shell of the CONCEPT helmet is made from glass-fibre
reinforced plastic (GRP). The high degree of shell rigidity is achieved with a special layer structure and selective use of carbon
fibre structures and Kevlar.
Aerodynamics / aeroacoustics:
To optimise the aerodynamics, the outer shell is provided with a radial spoiler edge. The arrangement of this spoiler edge was

optimised in the wind tunnel under extreme conditions. The spoiler
edge counteracts any tendency of the helmet to lift and at the same time brings about a significant reduction in turbulence and an
increase in helmet stability at high speeds. A further benefit of the surface design of the CONCEPT is a reduction of wind noise.
2. Inner shell of the helmet Structure:
To improve impact absorption, a helmet inner shell consisting of several sections is used. By employing a complex dual-zone
arrangement of foam components, the rider benefits from a very high standard of safety. Large side sections ensure the helmet fits
perfectly and comfortably.
Communication system
The helmet is designed for installation of the following intercom systems to ECE standard:

Such systems can be installed quickly and simply. Use of the above systems ensures that you obtain ECE conformity.
Tip : To simplify installation of your intercom, you can request the appropriate fitting instructions via the SCHUBERTH hotline.
Caution:
The ECE approval becomes void if other intercoms are installed!
3. Chin section Single-handed operation:
The hinged chin section of the
CONCEPT is operated on the left of the helmet with one hand.
The pattern of movement of the chin section is ergonomically
optimized.
Locking system:
Although two cone locks are used for closure, the chin section is operated with only one button. The cone locks positioned on both
sides are controlled simultaneously by means
of a Bowden cable with Teflon-coated outer sleeve.
Closing force:
By optimising the mechanics of the system,
the force required to operate the two locks has been reduced to a comfortable 25 N,
although for safety purposes the total closing force of the two lock mechanisms is 70 N.
End engagement:
Positive and secure engagement at the end of travel when the
chin section is raised ensures that it is kept securely in position.
Operating the chin section:
The chin section can be opened or closed at any time, irrespective of the position of the sun visor.
kCaution : Never ride with the chin section raised!
4. Chin strap Fastening:
The CONCEPT is fitted with a chin strap with a quick-action
press-button fastening. You fasten the chin strap lock by
pushing the metal tongue into
the lock until you hear it engage fully. Open the chin strap by pressing the red button.
kCaution: Never ride with the chin strap undone!
Adjustment:
Adjust the length of the chin strap so that the helmet cannot be pulled forwards and so that it fits firmly but comfortably. The chin
strap must run under the chin.
5. Putting on and taking off the helmet Putting the helmet on

helmet forwards with the thumb as far as the stop. The Bowden
cable mechanism releases both locks and the chin section can be hinged up to its end position in the direction of motion of the button.
2. Now grasp the ends of the chin strap and pull them apart.
3. The helmet can now be pulled easily over your head.
4. Close the chin strap lock by pushing the metal tongue into the lock until you hear it
engage fully.
5. Lower the chin section until you hear the two
locks engage.

Taking off the helmet Tip: Push in the sun visor when taking off the helmet.
1. Open the chin section by sliding the button positioned on the left of
the helmet forwards with the thumb of the left hand as far as the stop.
The Bowden cable mechanism releases both locks and the chin
section can be hinged up to its end
position in the direction of motion of the button.
2. Open the chin strap by pressing in the red button on the lock.
3. Now grasp the ends of the chin strap and pull them apart.
4. The helmet can now be removed easily from the head.
6. The visor Visor shield
The visor shield is a three-dimensional injection-moulded
component. The optics of the visor are calculated to provide excellent visual quality.
Coating
The visor shield is coated on both sides to provide scratch-resistance
and additionally on the inside to reduce misting. Note: When cleaning the shield, avoid rubbing it too vigorously or
scratching it.
After intensive cleaning, riding in the rain or long journeys in cold
weather, the anti-mist coating needs a little time to become fully active again. In this time, the coating is less able or unable to cope
with moisture from your breath. Storing the helmet in a dry,
ventilated place will accelerate the coating_ s reactivation process.
Operation
The visor can be operated with the left or right hand by means of the projecting lips at the bottom of the visor.
Locking the visor
The visor will lock in five different positions. The visor mechanism is designed so that no lubrication is required.
Operating the system
The visor can be operated at any time, irrespective of the position
of the sun visor.
6.1. Replacing the visor shield The visor shield can be replaced without tools.
Removing
1. Push the visor horizontally forwards.
2. Rotate the catches of the shield fastening (by 90°).
3. Slide the cover disk with fastening forwards.
4. Remove the cover disk.
5. Pull off the visor end.

Fitting
1. Insert the visor end in the initial position.
2. Put the cover disk in position.
3. Slide the cover disk with visor fastening backwards.
Tip: Press evenly on the cover disk to make it easier to slide.
4. Rotate the catch.
5. Slide the visor shield back to the riding position.
6.2 Sun visor Shield
The shield is of three-dimensional shape and tinted blue-grey. Due
to its thickness (1.5 mm), the shield can also offer adequate protection from stones and insects when the visor is raised.
Coating
The shield is coated on both sides to prevent scratching and misting.
Operation
The sun visor is operated with a slide positioned on the left. Sliding this down
lowers the sun visor and sliding it
upwards conceals the sun visor inside the inner lining of the helmet. The slide
locks in place in the top and bottom end
positions.
k Note : Only use the slide to operate the sun visor.
Operating the system
The sun visor can be operated independently of the visor and chin
section.
6.3. Replacing the sun visor The sun visor can be replaced without tools.
kNote: When being fitted, the sun visor must not touch the shell of the helmet.
Tip: During fitting or removing, hold the sun visor with a soft cloth
to avoid fingerprints.
Removing
1. Pivot the sun visor downwards; the snap fastenings of the sun visor mechanism are visible
at the top of the helmet shell.
2. Pull the sun visor downwards until it is
released from the fastenings.
3. Lift the two ends of the shield from the pivot
pins of the shield mounting.
Tip: Leave the sun visor mounting in the lower position until you refit the sun visor.
Fitting
1. Place the sun visor firstly onto the pivot pins
on one side then the other.

2. Support the sun visor mounting and carefully
get the shield to engage first in one of the top snap fastenings, then the other.
7. SCHUBERTH SECURITY LID The Security Lid is located on the left side of the
helmet shell. Behind this lid is a safety guide (updated September 1998) with important information for
emergencies. The safety guide bears the numbers of all emergency stations for the neighboring countries of Europe and safety
instructions for opening the helmet and what to do in emergencies. The user can also add his or her own name, address and personal
telephone numbers to the guide _ a waterproof pen
can be used to write on the laminated paper. The safety guide was drawn up with the help of the
German Red Cross in Braunschweig.
kCaution: The safety guide is only intended as a suggestion of the extent and order of actions to
take for those assisting in emergencies. There may be good reasons for pursuing different courses of
action in individual cases! As a matter of principle, we recommend regular attendance at first-aid courses arranged by
the Red Cross or a similar organization.
Operation
Place a finger in the recess of the lid and pull. The lid will then open.
8. Ventilation system
8.1 Ventilation of visor, option 1 Functioning principle
Air passing through the gap between the visor and helmet shell flows over the inside surface
of the visor and exits again through a gap at
the top of the visor.
Operation
Slide the visor forwards with the grips at the left, right or both together to create a gap for the visor ventilation (town riding
position).
8.2 Ventilation of visor, option 2 Functioning principle
To ventilate the visor, the CONCEPT is provided with a vent in the chin area. Irrespective of your seated posture, 80 -90% of the air in
the center filament of flow passes exactly into the inlet of the vent.
A deflection system ensures the visor stays mist-free even at low speeds. Thanks to aeroacoustic optimization, the visor ventilation
system is associated with only a minimal increase in wind noise even when open.
Operation
You open the ventilation slot by pushing on the large bottom part
of the vent piece and close it again by pushing on the top part.
8.3 Ventilation of interior of helmet Functioning principle
In conjunction with the vent, the CONCEPT provides a system in
the chin area for ventilating the interior of the helmet. A ventilation slide is provided on the inside of the chin area for this. This slide
can be used to direct all of the air at the visor shield or for ventilating the interior of the helmet.
Operation
Open the vent in the chin area. Adjust the slide on the inside of the
chin section to regulate the interior ventilation.
8.4 Ventilation of the head Functioning principle
To provide regulated ventilation of
the surface of the head, a large air inlet scoop with an easily operated
slide is located on the top of the helmet shell. Air entering through
the scoop is directed by ducts to
the surface of the head. At the same time, warm air in the neck
area is sucked out.
Operation
A large slide is located on the top of the air inlet scoop. If required, the head ventilation can be fully or partially opened by moving the
slide backwards. Since the head ventilation system is very
effective, precise adjustment is advisable. The head ventilation should be closed when it is raining. To do this, move the slide
forwards. Rain entering the air inlet scoop is diverted out via the opening at the back.
9. Replaceable lining Procedure
The SCHUBERTH CONCEPT is fitted with a removable inner lining.
The lining is provided with four push-

buttons for this purpose. This means you can maintain a constant
high level of hygiene even with intensive use by hand-washing the lining in mild soapy water with a temperature of 30Ä C.
Tip: If required, the lining can be hung over the mirror of the motorcycle for drying.
10. Maintenance and care Helmet shell
To clean the helmet shell, you can use tap water, soapy water or one of the commonly available car shampoos, cleaners, polishes
and plastic cleaning agents, as well as cleaning fluid.
k Note: Never use motor fuel such as petrol for cleaning.
Visor
Only use a soft cloth and mild soapy water for removing dirt from the visor. Avoid vigorous rubbing and scratching. To dry the visor, use a
lint-free cloth. Never clean the visor with petrol or any solvents. After intensive cleaning, riding in the rain or long journeys in cold weather,
the anti-mist coating needs a little time to become fully active again.
If in time, the coating is less able or unable to cope with moisture
from your breath, storing the helmet in a dry, ventilated place will accelerate the coating_ s reactivation process.
Inner padding and lining
To clean the inner cheek padding, use a mild, lukewarm soap
solution (e. g. any commonly available mild detergent). The inner padding should not be soaked with water. The removable lining can
be hand-washed in mild soapy water with a temperature of 30Ä C.
Lock system
The metal parts of the lock system can if required be lubricated with
a little Vaseline. To do this, use a thin cloth or similar (e. g. sponge cloth or small brush). Apply the Vaseline thinly.
Storing the helmet
When not in use, keep the helmet in the supplied helmet bag.
Always store the helmet so that it cannot fall onto the floor. Damage caused this way is not covered by the guarantee.
11. Accessories Breath deflector
A breath deflector is available as an original accessory. The fixing lip of the breath deflector is inserted centrally between the chin
protection padding and chin section.

Should your helmet require repair, contact your
dealer or send the helmet directly to us. We will carry out the repair to your CONCEPT within 24
hours of receipt of the helmet during the working
week (except re-painting or special requests). Allow for the time required for shipment.
2. Guarantee SCHUBERTH HELME guarantees to replace
defective parts free of charge for a period of 3 years. All guarantee work is undertaken by our
24-hour repair service. Please enclose a copy of the original receipt and post the helmet to the

D. SAFETY INSTRUCTIONS kCaution:
After an accident or a violent impact to the helmet, the protective function is no longer covered by the guarantee! In a fall or accident,
the helmet absorbs energy. This absorption is achieved by complete or partial structural destruction of the outer or inner shell of the
helmet. Because of the way the helmet is constructed, this damage is usually invisible to the wearer. After a fall or violent impact, the
helmet must be replaced as a matter of principle. For safety reasons,
the helmet should be rendered unusable and returned to the dealer or manufacturer for recycling. If you wish, you can send the helmet
to SCHUBERTH HELME for examination free of charge.
k Caution: Never ride with the chin strap open.
Never ride with the chin section open.
kCaution: A scratched visor will considerably impair your vision at night or in
bright facing sunlight. For your own safety, replace this immediately.
kCaution: Petrol vapour can cause cracks on the visor. Make sure the visor
is not exposed to such vapour.
kCaution: Excessive heat (for example, exhaust heat) can cause damage to
the decoration and inner shell of the helmet.
kCaution: Tinted visors and sun visors are unsuitable for riding at night and
in tunnels.
kCaution: The safety function of the helmet is reduced when the chin
section is open or raised.
kCaution: Original components should be neither modified nor removed. The
helmet should not be modified to accept third-party, non-recommended
accessories. Modifications to the helmet, such as the drilling of holes, can partially or wholly destroy the protective
function of the helmet. In these cases, the ECE approval becomes
void as does any guarantee supported by the manufacturer or supplier.
kCaution: Use only accessories that have been expressly approved by
SCHUBERTH HELMET for your helmet.
kCaution: To guarantee adequate protection, any helmet must fit well and be
securely fastened. Any helmet subjected to a violent blow should
be replaced.
kNote: Check your helmet regularly for damage. Small scratches will not
