On my first run after the weather finally cleared up I counted 27 'significant' potholes in the space of 1/2 mile  At that point I gave up because I was too busy dodging them. By the way, that was only on my side of the road

They have all, well most of them, been 'repaired' now (I use that term VERY loosely) but unfortunately most are now breaking up because they were only 'filled' - and not very well :?

No doubt the council, or whoever, will be out again at some point to 'repair' them once more.

In the article Tezza posted mentioned the last sentence said "The cost of fixing every pothole in the country following the latest cold snap would be £10billion, according to the Asphalt Industry Alliance."

I would say it will be a LOT more than that if Bracknell is anything to go by as they will have to repair most of them again.

Whatever happened to 'if you're going to do a job then do it properly'

Silly Sid,

If they were repaired properly the contractor would be out of a job after a while, this way there is a job for life...... [-X

You could always report the surrey ones on line, Tez.

If it takes more than 3 bolts to hold it on, it's probably crucial.

How much free time do you think I have

I have reported several and the council have had their first round of repairs which have addressed some of them, several of them requiring further repair - very much a case of pack some tarmac in the hole, whack in down and move on!

Not trying to defend councils, but it might be that there are so many potholes after the winter we've had, the most important thing is to fill them up with something to minimise potential damage and "fix" as many as possible as quickly as possible. The cold weather probably doesn't lend itself to decent road surface repairs, so just dump some tarmac in t'hole and move on, come back when demand has eased off and the weather is a mite warmer and do it properly. Just a thought.

After a cold snap, I have to negotiate about 15 large potholes just to get out of the estate. They are generally always patched within a week or two of being reported, then the next tranche of cold weather occurs and they reappear. Permanent repairs are never carried out.

As it appears obvious that patching is only a temporary thing, I am confused as to why more permanent repairs are not carried out.

It is getting dangerous out there with road users spending more time looking out for the potholes and trying to avoid them instead of looking where they are going.

Thought you might have a point, untill i read the bit about doing it properly. Thats just to much to believe. :)

the new fork seals currently being fitted onto my bike can confirm how bad surrey is

'temporary' repairs does certainly suggest at some point they will do them properly... just never before the temporary repair fails again
