Another new member from Edinburgh, Bonnie Scotland, here.
This looks like a nice wee community here.
I currently own two bikes a Suzuki RF900 & a nicely restored wee classic, a 1972 Suzuki T250J Hustler, the first real motorbike I owned as a 17 year old.
I have actually been riding bikes (on and off road) since I was 9 years old, I'm now 51 and have ridden bikes all my life including an 8 year stint as a motorcycle courier (in my forties !) on two Honda Revere 600's both of which I put circa 120,000 miles on and they were still going strong when I sold them !
It is because I did so many miles on my Revere's that I'm sold on the reliability, comfort and useability of the model. They did everything well although perhaps nothing exceptionally well (except reliability) but the sum total of their parts still made them probbly the best all round bike I've ridden to date and I've ridden a few bikes in my time !
It is for this reason that I'm looking to return to the fold and as the old Revere 600's & NTV 650's are few and far between now, just like the old CX500's before them most have been couriered to death, I thought a Deauville would be a good more modern alternative ?
So, a Deauville 650 or maybe a 700 beckons as an alternative which I intend to use as my daily commute and occasional ride out machine whilst still keeping my other two bikes which have entirley different qualities.
I'd be very interested to hear from anyone who has ridden the old Revere's or NTV's as to how they compare with the newer Deauvilles ?
I've heard stories of the Deauville being described as a DULLville which is something that I'd never have levelled at it's predecesor.
The Revere's although granted, not the best handling bike in the world were ok & I was regularly "knee down" (out of town of course) on the Revere when conditions allowed and the "hero blobs" on the footpegs were quickly worn away to non existance (that's couriers for you ..hooligans !
So, what can expect from the Deauville in comparison ?
Is the addition of a fairing and built in paniers really going to make it so much heavier that I'll be dissapointed with how it now performs. Although it will not be used for couriering & mainly for my daily commute which is largely in traffic, I'm hoping I'll still be able to enjoy the odd mildly "spirited" rideout on it without being too dissapinted ? I'm not looking for superbike performance, but there's still life in the old dog yet and I'm not ready for an "old mans bike" quite yet just a comfortable and reliable all rounder with decent performance simlar to the older models ..... am I going to be dissapointed with a Deauville ?
Anyway, I'd be really interested to hear from anyone who's ridden both.
